California Endorsement to AGL

California attorneys answer to a discipline system, a set of conduct rules, and a bench that are all moving on AI faster than the national picture. The California Endorsement extends the AGL credential to that ground, and is examined separately from the national core.

Why California, Now

The State Bar has moved from guidance to prosecution.

Courts have sanctioned attorneys in dozens of cases for filing AI-fabricated citations, and the State Bar of California has begun bringing disciplinary prosecutions arising from AI misuse in practice. For a California attorney, the operative question is no longer what the guidance suggests. It is what the discipline system will do with a given set of facts, and which rule it will do it under.

That is a jurisdiction-specific competence. The national core teaches the duties that attach when a tool touches a matter. This endorsement teaches how those duties are enforced in California, by whom, and against what standard.

The endorsement is versioned separately from the national core. When California amends a rule, this endorsement is revised and the core is left alone. Every certificate records the version of the Solari Standard it was examined against.

How the endorsement is earned

The Exam
Sixteen items, twelve to pass
A sixteen-item scenario-based form drawn from the California item bank, covering the three examinable units. The passing standard is seventy-five percent, the same cut as the national core. One included retake within fourteen days, with items in randomized order.
The Credential
AGL-CA, verifiable
Passing earns AGL-CA alongside your AGL credential. It issues as a verifiable digital badge with a public verification page, so a client, a firm, or a court can confirm it directly. The badge metadata records the Standard version examined against.
Currency
Maintained with the core
Annual recertification covers the national core and every endorsement held, under one fee and one update module. Holding the California endorsement does not add a separate renewal cycle to track.

Prerequisite: the California Endorsement extends the AGL credential and assumes the national core. Attorneys new to AGL should register for the combined option below, which carries both the core and the endorsement.

Release: enrollment is open now, and the California module is delivered on release. Enrolled candidates are notified when it issues.

California MCLE status: the Institute's provider accreditation with the State Bar of California is in progress. MCLE credit attaches only to course completions after approval issues; completions before that date earn the AGL and AGL-CA credentials but not California MCLE credit. The Institute is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or accredited by the State Bar of California or the American Bar Association.

Common Questions

Yes. The endorsement assumes the six core domains and tests only what is distinctly Californian. If you do not already hold AGL, register for the combined option, which carries the core and the endorsement together.

Not yet. Provider accreditation with the State Bar of California is in progress, and the Institute claims no MCLE credit until that approval has issued. If it issues, credit will attach to completions after the approval date. What you earn today is the AGL-CA professional credential, which is a separate thing from MCLE hours and does not depend on them.

The California AI statute stack and the MCLE unit both change faster than an examination cycle. Testing a snapshot would certify knowledge with a short shelf life, which would weaken the credential rather than strengthen it. Both units are taught as a map and a reading method, and both are refreshed in the annual update.

The endorsement is revised and reissued at a new version, and the national core is untouched. Your certificate records the version you were examined against, and currency is maintained through the annual update module rather than by re-earning the credential.
